Welcome to Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community’s online information source. We hope your visit to this site provides you with useful information about retirement living in Harrisonburg, VA. VMRC’s 400+ employees are proud to offer one of the finest retirement communities in the Shenandoah Valley. We are pleased to be the retirement community of choice to approximately 700 seniors 55 and older of all faiths.
But don't just take our word for it. The seniors who live in our communities rank us nationally. VMRC's care recently earned a resident satisfaction rating which places it in the top 10 percent of national benchmarks for assisted living communities. Those areas which ranked higher than the national benchmark included quality of care, quality of wellness programs, overall satisfaction and friendliness of staff. Among independent living areas, VMRC scored above the national benchmark in 14 areas including value for price, long-term confidence in VMRC's future, service, comfort and overall effectiveness of staff. Overall satisfaction for Oak Lea, part of our Complete Living Care, also scored above the national benchmark with three areas above the national benchmark: access of nursing administration, dining services and staff respect for residents' privacy.

History & Mission
VMRC is here to be a leading resource for senior living to the 55+ population. So, whether you are interested in the living options on our 47-acre campus, or in any of our programs that promote better living, we can help you age well.
VMRC founder George B. Showalter made it a priority to care for the oldest members of his community. Now, more than 50 years later, that vision has been transformed through the commitment of VMRC staff and volunteers to provide a retirement living experience centered on those same values: life-long learning, diversity, compassionate care, service, and stewardship.
