Complete Living Care
Meaningful living in a home environment
Woodland Park - VMRC’s Complete Living Care - features home-like residences of 10-11 housemates with a dedicated staff. The homes offer individual, private bedrooms and baths, with a shared living space for family-style meals and gatherings. Because of this small-home model, we were better able to contain COVID-19 than a traditional medical-model design of health care that cares for more residents in a larger setting. Porches, courtyards and large windows provide access to the outdoors and natural light which have their own health benefits.
Life in Woodland Park is all about bonded relationships—around the house, with staff and with each other. Being a health care worker during COVID has had a particular impact on VMRC’s front-line team in Woodland Park – from the emotional and physical demands in their jobs, to the challenges of staff scheduling due to long hours and industry-wide staff shortages.
That’s why we have made the decision to pause admissions to Woodland Park so we may temporarily consolidate residents in Showalter House and Yoder House to other Woodland Park homes and to the south wing of Oak Lea to address our staffing challenge. This decision to re-orient residents temporarily will immediately eliminate the need to fill 60 shifts per week while allowing us to maintain resident-centered care. These moves will be completed in April.
All residents who are temporarily moving will have private rooms and private bath, consistent staff and life enrichment programming. Those who move to Oak Lea will have the added benefit of accessing the Transitional Care gym and meals in The Grille if they choose.
Our goal is to reopen Showalter and Yoder houses by the end of the summer. While focusing on staff development, we also will use this opportunity to refresh Showalter and Yoder houses which are two of the original Woodland Park houses.
