From art shows and exhibits to speaker presentations and music programs, the VMRC campus has traditionally been a hub of activity for residents and the greater community. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, we were challenged with the question of how to host events when being together in person isn’t an option. Relying on creativity, innovation and technology have allowed us to, quite literally, go on with the show.
This year, both the Juried Art Exhibition and the Shenandoah Valley Lyceum have gone virtual! The Juried Art Exhibit, now in its 17th year, was made available on our website in late July, allowing visitors to see a slideshow of the 90 selected works from this year’s exhibit. Visitors can also view a digital catalog that details information on each piece, as well as artists and purchase information. Visit the show here through August 23.
The Shenandoah Valley Lyceum’s 2020-2021 season will begin with virtual events, too. Lyceum programming will be available to view on our Vimeo channel (vimeo.com/vmrcbroadcast) or via a link on our website (www.vmrc.org/lyceum-series). Details on this year’s Lyceum line-up can be found here. Usually a ticketed event, the virtual Lyceum events will have no charge.
While virtual events do not replace in-person experiences, it’s an opportunity for us to reach a wide audience and keep providing interesting and entertaining content in a time when we can’t gather in person. We look forward to welcoming both residents and the public back to our community for events when it’s safe to do so. Until then, we’ll see you online!
