The Dogwood Trail, VMRC’s one-mile walking loop around campus, had its official ribbon-cutting today. Signs were recently added every quarter mile and mileage markers were painted on the sidewalk so that users of the trail can keep track of their distance while getting in their steps. After a welcome and cutting of the ribbon, more than 55 staff and residents took an inaugural walk around the trail. Staff “cheerleaders” were along the way with signs and words of encouragement and VMRC dining kept walkers energized with a healthy snack.
Melinda Noland, Wellness Center director said, “The ribbon cutting and walk are a great way to promote outdoor activity, commend people for their efforts during COVID and welcome residents and staff to move!”
In addition to the Dogwood Trail, VMRC is also conveniently located next door to Park Woods, an urban forest that includes a walking path as well as benches and picnic tables.
