Born from an idea in VMRC’s Resident and Staff Racial Equity Committee, the Journey to VMRC video series features the unique stories and life experiences of residents and staff members.
From showcasing connections between residents and staff to highlighting residents who spent an entire working life somewhere other than their home country, the journeys shared have been enlightening and impactful.
Chelsea Robinson, VMRC Fitness Assistant and staff committee member, said, “We created this video series as one way to highlight the diversity on VMRC’s campus and to celebrate the many faces that make VMRC what it is today — a welcoming and inclusive environment. We hope the series will build even greater unity and connectedness among the residents and staff.”
The latest video in the series honors Black History and African Heritage Month and features Alexis Nsabimana. Alexis was born in Gitega, Burundi, and moved to the U.S. in 2019. He has a deep passion for people that is evidenced not only in his current role as a CNA in Transitional Care but also in his past work with individuals living with AIDS and in his role as a Project Impact Specialist with Mennonite Central Committee.
