The Community

A vibrant community in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, VMRC is the ideal place to age well, live fully. This philosophy guides all that we do and leads us to continually innovate to meet the ever-changing needs of residents.

Our Campus, a destination in itself, features unique wellness and cultural events. The Park Gables Gallery, located along Main Street, showcases numerous shows and exhibits throughout the year. And, our Wellness Center provides residents and community members with a whole body approach to health -- from fitness classes to educational programs with a focus on emotional and physical well-being.

Enjoy a wide array of on-campus services and amenities located along our indoor Main Street, the “center of town” that connects multiple buildings on campus. Or, explore the campus grounds including our beautiful rose garden, a community garden for green-thumbed residents, grassy area for bocce ball, shuffleboard courts and an enclosed play area for visiting grandchildren.

Venture off campus and discover what’s nearby. Eastern Mennonite University- a short walk just next door- generously shares with us access to their outdoor and indoor tracks, library, tennis courts, and nature trail! You’ll feel the added energy VMRC gets from being located adjacent to EMU. Distinct communities of their own, but with the mutual sharing that great neighbors have.

Our location makes it easy to get around since VMRC’s front door is right on the public and paratransit bus routes! Curious in your retirement to explore beyond the local area? VMRC is only 30 minutes away from a regional airport! And you don’t even need to hop on a plane to visit major metropolitan destinations like Washington, D.C., Baltimore or New York City, which are all just a few hours away by car or bus!
