A Career That Shapes Life Beyond Work
A Place Where Nursing Feels Personal
When JJ first began looking for her next nursing opportunity, she was searching for more than a new position. She wanted a place where she could care for people the way she believed nursing should be practiced and build meaningful relationships with the people she cared for.
As she visited VMRC, one thing immediately stood out. The kindness was genuine. Residents, employees, and leaders all seemed happy to be there, creating an environment that felt warm, supportive, and full of purpose. Compassionate care was more than a goal, it was clearly part of everyday life.
After building her career across emergency medicine, intensive care, cardiac step-down, orthopedics, and caring for older adults for more than 15 years, JJ found the place where she enjoys nursing most, at VMRC.
Trusted to Make a Difference
Every day brings new decisions, and at VMRC, nurses are trusted to make them. That sense of autonomy allows JJ to combine years of experience with thoughtful clinical judgment, helping residents stay safe while ensuring each day continues to run smoothly.
That trust is felt throughout the organization. Our leaders value the insight nurses bring, encourage their ideas, and invest in creating an environment where they can do their best work. When nurses know their voices matter, they have the confidence to focus on what matters most: helping residents age with dignity, compassion, and excellence.
Learning, Leading, and Growing Together
As JJ's career has grown, so has her passion for helping others begin theirs. She enjoys introducing new nurses to the culture at VMRC and showing them what makes the community feel like family. For JJ, mentoring is about more than teaching clinical skills. It's about helping the next generation of nurses discover a workplace where they can continue learning, growing, and building confidence.
That growth also comes from working alongside other departments. Watching the Wellness & Enrichment team create meaningful experiences for residents gives JJ a deeper understanding of each person's interests, abilities, and goals. Those moments help her provide more thoughtful, individualized care and remind her that great nursing is strengthened by collaboration across the entire community.
A Career That Shapes Life Beyond Work
Working alongside older adults has changed more than JJ's career. It has changed the way she experiences the world.
The relationships she has built with residents have strengthened her communication, deepened her understanding of the aging journey, and inspired her to notice opportunities to help people in everyday life. The lessons she learns at work don't stay at work. They continue into her relationships, her perspective, and the way she cares for others beyond the walls of VMRC.
For JJ, that is what makes nursing here so meaningful. It is not defined by routines or checklists, but by the opportunity to know each resident as an individual and work alongside teammates who share that same purpose. From supportive leadership and collaborative teams to opportunities to mentor others and continue growing, every part of the experience contributes to something bigger than a job. It creates an environment where both residents and team members can thrive.
For nurses beginning their careers or looking for a place to deepen their purpose, JJ believes VMRC offers the opportunity to build not just a career, but a life filled with meaningful work.
