Growing Through Connection: VMRC’s Partnership with JMU
A Partnership Rooted in Purpose
VMRC’s partnership with James Madison University reflects a shared commitment to learning, service, and community connection. Through the Madison Community Scholars Program, students step beyond the classroom to support a local non-profit, school, or government agency while gaining valuable professional experience.
At VMRC, this partnership also fosters meaningful relationships between students and residents, creating a warm and engaging intergenerational environment.
Introducing the Leader Program
This year, JMU introduced a new leader component, selecting high-achieving students to make an even greater impact. VMRC was honored to be matched with Natalie, whose passion for serving others and curiosity for learning made her a strong fit.
Meaningful Work and Growth
During her time at VMRC, Natalie contributed to projects such as writing Montessori-based blogs and helping develop raised garden beds. These efforts created opportunities for connection and collaboration between students and residents.
As a Health Science major, she has also been able to connect her academic studies with real-world experiences, deepening her understanding of aging while building professional skills and relationships.
Continuing Enriched Opportunities
Natalie’s dedication and compassion have made a lasting impact. She will continue her journey at VMRC this summer, supporting assisted living programs.
Partnerships like this highlight the value of community-centered learning, where students grow, residents are enriched, and meaningful connections are formed.
