A Family Connection That Continues Through Giving
A Familiar Connection to VMRC
Larry Hershberger’s connection to VMRC grew through his mother’s life and the experiences she had within the community. As a long-standing employee of Eastern Mennonite University’s dining team, she lived and worked closely within the area and came to know VMRC as a neighboring community she respected and trusted.
Over time, she made the decision to join VMRC’s waitlist, knowing the value of being connected to a community like this. That connection would later become especially meaningful in a moment no one could have fully anticipated.
When Plans Meet the Unexpected
After living at home for many years, Larry’s mother experienced a sudden change in her health that required a higher level of care. In that moment, her family made the call to VMRC.
Because she was already on the waitlist, a room was available for her, first in Transitional Care and later in Woodland Park. Knowing that space was ready helped bring a sense of clarity during an otherwise uncertain time.
For Larry and his family, that readiness made all the difference.
Care That Made a Lasting Impression
During her time at VMRC, Larry and his family experienced firsthand the attentiveness and consistency of the staff. Communication was thoughtful, and the team made sure the family stayed informed about her care.
What stood out most was the peace of mind they felt. She was surrounded by people who knew her, cared for her, and treated her with dignity every step of the way.
Giving Back Through Compassion Care
After his mother passed, Larry learned more about VMRC’s Compassion Care, and its purpose deeply resonated with him. The fund helps ensure that residents who have spent their lives building this community can continue receiving care, even if their financial resources run low.
For Larry, supporting Compassion Care was a way to give back to a place that had been such an important part of his family’s journey. VMRC provided not only care, but also stability, trust, and a sense of community when it mattered most.
