This scholarship is named for longtime VMRC resident Mary Reitz, who had a decades-long career in nursing and nurse education. Her care and dedication to the greater good continue to resonate throughout this community.
Frequently Asked Questions
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Current VMRC employees and members of the local community who are pursuing Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) degrees.
HOW MANY SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AWARDED?
Up to three full-tuition scholarships will be awarded annually:
Two scholarships for VMRC employees
One scholarship for a member of the local community
WHAT IS THE APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS?
The 2026 application window is December 1, 2025 to February 13, 2026.
2026 winners will be announced in April 2026.
Individuals with the intent to enroll in a nursing program may apply.
Applicants already enrolled in nursing programs, with future schooling still to be completed and in good standing, may apply.
WHAT ARE THE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS?
A completed application form
Professional reference(s): From a current or past employer
Academic reference from a recent teacher or advisor. Instead of an academic reference, applicants may submit a second professional reference.
Personal statement detailing an applicant’s motivation for becoming a nurse and alignment with VMRC’s values.
